The Škocjan Caves are a complex system of tunnels and halls stretching almost 6 kilometers underground. The caves were formed many years ago by the flow of a river with the non-trivial name of the River. Some parts of it collapsed, resulting in numerous sinkholes, and the long winding corridors of the caves seem to have no end. Within this unique attraction, there are many sinkholes and karst collapses, and there are also small but very beautiful waterfalls within the caves. Stalactites and stalagmites of impressive size form unusual figures and compositions, and well-designed lighting adds to their mystery. In addition to the numerous creations of the nature goddess in the Škocjan Caves, there is the world-famous Martel Hall, which is the largest underground cavern in Europe. Its height, length, and width are 146, 300, and 120 meters, respectively. The River Canyon is one of the most unforgettable sights during the excursion. This water artery stretches for many kilometers, starting in the area of the village of Škocjan and flowing into Lake Morte. Your route is designed in such a way that you will inevitably pass over the river on the Cerkvenik Bridge, which is 45 meters above it! By the way, the bridge itself is a natural formation: in the past, it was part of the cave's vault. In 1965, the Cerkvenik Bridge was completely submerged during the last flooding in the cave. When going on a tour of the Škocjan Caves, remember that it is quite cold there. Therefore, don't forget to bring warm clothing.
